Root cloth for professional garden projects

Professional root cloth and ground cover for landscapers and contractors for artificial grass projects, paving, and borders. The range includes three weight categories: synthetic polypropylene 90 g/m² with UV stabilization ≈800 kLy for permanent applications, premium jute 2000 g/m² for temporary projects, and biodegradable ground cover made of 95% PLA with 5% hemp (157 g/m²) for ecological installation.

Black polypropylene with a green color border and rectangular pattern, dimensions 5.25 x 100 m (525 m² per roll) for large areas. Water permeability of 0.02 m/s ensures drainage while suppressing weed growth. Tensile strength varies from 600 N/5 cm to 3 kN/m depending on the weight category.

Material selection & Project suitability

Polypropylene 90 g/m² is suitable for artificial grass projects, paving with bricks or gravel, and borders with long-term weed control. UV stabilization of ≈800 kLy guarantees a lifespan of 10+ years under exposure. Jute 2000 g/m² is a natural material for planting projects where the barrier breaks down after 2-3 seasons without permanently obstructing the soil.

Organic PLA/hemp ground cover 157 g/m² for ecological projects and borders, decomposition period 12-18 months. Size 2 x 25 m (50 m² per roll), tensile strength 3 kN/m, thickness 0.9 mm. All versions are permeable for drainage without root rot or waterlogging. Ground cover pegs are available separately for fixation in different soil types.

Frequently Asked Questions - Root Cloth

What weight weed control fabric is best for artificial grass projects?

For artificial grass projects, we recommend 90 g/m² polypropylene with UV stabilization of ≈800 kLy. Tensile strength of 600 N/5 cm is sufficient to withstand root pressure and ground movement. Water permeability of 0.02 m/s ensures rainwater drainage to the sand foundation without water retention. Dimensions of 5.25 x 100 m (525 m² per roll) minimize seams for large projects, gardens, and sports fields.

Black with a green trim facilitates overlap control during installation. UV stabilization guarantees no degradation during exposure or potential damage to artificial grass. Heavier weights of 150-200 g/m² are unnecessary for residential and commercial artificial grass projects where 90 g/m² is sufficient.

What is the difference between synthetic and biodegradable root cloth?

Synthetic polypropylene 90 g/m² is for permanent artificial grass and paving projects where weed suppression is required for 10+ years. UV stabilization ≈800 kLy, water permeability 0.02 m/s, tensile strength 600 N/5 cm. Biodegradable jute ground cover 2000 g/m² or PLA/hemp 157 g/m² is for temporary projects lasting 1-3 seasons. Jute degrades in 2-3 seasons, making it suitable for planting projects where a permanent barrier hinders the root system.

PLA/hemp organic ground cover breaks down in 12-18 months, making it suitable for borders and ecological projects. Organic versions lack UV stabilization and break down in closed soil packs without residue. Price difference: synthetic is cheaper per m², but organic offers cost savings due to the lack of subsequent disposal.

Can custom-made root cloth be supplied for large projects?

We supply root cloth on standard rolls as well as custom-made for efficient processing in large projects. Standard widths include 200, 330, 420, and 525 cm, with lengths up to 100 meters. For specific project requirements, we cut root cloth to exact dimensions to prevent waste and overlap. The minimum order quantity for custom-made products is 100 m², with a delivery time of 5-7 business days.

For bulk orders of 500 m² or more, volume discounts and project pricing are available. On-site delivery is possible for large volumes, including installation advice. For complex projects with varying widths, we recommend multiple roll widths for optimal material utilization. A customized quote will be provided within 48 hours of submitting project specifications and site plan.

How long does professional weed control fabric last for outdoor projects?

Professional weed control fabric weighing 90-100 g/m² with UV stabilization (≅800 kLy) has a lifespan of 8-15 years when properly installed under paved and semi-paved surfaces. Polypropylene tape fabric resists UV degradation, moisture, and temperature fluctuations without loss of tensile strength. Direct exposure to sunlight (uncovered) reduces the lifespan to 3-5 years, depending on the climate.

Biodegradable jute ground cover is designed to degrade naturally after one to two seasons for temporary applications. The warranty against UV degradation is voided if it comes into contact with chemicals such as sulfur, chlorine, iron, or bromine derivatives, and copper salts. For a multi-year project warranty, we specify the installation method, covering, and maintenance protocol in our technical documentation.
